Leporano is a town and comune in the Taranto province in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. Overview The municipality of Leporano is a little maritime town at the Ionian sea southeast of Rome in the Province of Taranto. The town, known for the widely seen fortress “Castello Muscettola”, the “Saturo” watch tower and the port of “Pirrone” has approximately 7,000 inhabitants and covers 15 square kilometres (5.8 sq mi), with a density of 385 persons per square kilometre. Leporano's distance from Rome is 440 kilometres (270 mi), from Florence 627 kilometres (390 mi) and from Venice 694 kilometres (431 mi). The coat of arms of the township contains a red rabbit jumping on a blue background topped by a noble count's crown and at the bottom is surrounded by a green laurel wreath. Leporano is also famous for the aristocratic Italian family and house of the princes of Leporano.
