In 1870 it was assigned to the architect Andrea Scala the task of finding a suitable site to build a new Politeama. The facade of the Theater is a Neo-Baroque. The room to four orders of stages over the gallery, it is of great decorative richness and is one of the most beautiful among those built in the nineteenth century in Italy. The ceiling is painted by the painter Ernesto Bellandi with the apotheosis of Bellini and allegories of his major works. The Theater has an orchestra of 105 elements and a chorus of 84 elements. The tenor Beniamino Gigli proclaimed it the best room of theater in the world for the acoustics.
