Museo del Giocattolo

The Toy Museum: made in January 2002 by the cultural AME, and until recently housed in the prestigious premises of Palazzo Bruca of Catania, found in January 2011 a new and more functional position: "The Chimneys" avenue of Africa, hosted by the Province. Rag dolls, celluloid, or porcelain, solid state or mechanical, a football-thirties, toy soldiers and other materials, a papier-mache doll of the late nineteenth century, cars and model ships, notebooks and journals, horses rocking, the spectacular "dollhouses" bear witness to the entertainment of children up to the middle of the last century. A cross-section of culture, art, fashion and technology of life of children of a time that was.

 

From the outset he exhibited about 180 pieces (all the property of the AME, who runs the museum). Over time the collection has been enriched by a few dozen pieces, the result of donations from individuals, and the number of pieces on display is continuously increasing. A large quantity of antique toys that trace the historical evolution of the toy over the last 150 years, almost as if to accompany the story of the same unit of Italy. It finds himself faced with objects that have used our grandparents, play material perhaps outdated, but it still retains all the charm and poetry of the game. 

 

The toys of a different composition and origin, and belonging to a period between the end of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, are now hundreds of specimens documenting the games and pastimes of the children of the past. The most sensitive are kept in special shrines.
