Rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, its construction concurred different architects such as Francesco and Antonino Battaglia and Giovan Battista Vaccarini. Subsequently, following the earthquake of 1818, it became necessary to further restoration that was entrusted to Antonino Battaglia. The building consists of an entire city block, with a courtyard in the shape of the cloister with doors originally open on all four sides of the building. The Palace has a splendid Hall frescoed by Giovan Battista Piparo. On the wall that is the backdrop to the academic podium, it hangs a tapestry with the emblem of the dynasty of Aragon. The University Library contains precious codes, incunabula, manuscripts and autograph letters, over 200.000 volumes.
