Torre dello Zenobito

Where Punta dello Zenobito - Cala Rossa, Capraia Isola (Livorno)

Zenobito Tower is one of four towers along the coast of the Island. It owes its name to ancient monastery, which was located nearby in Middle Ages. Current Tower was built by Genoese in 1545 to oversee the territory from enemy attacks and report them to Fort of San Giorgo and other towers of Corsica. The building has circular base and dominates suggestive Cala Rossa. Inside it has three overlapping planes, one of which is dominated by large central fireplace in lava rock. It is accessible by two paths: coastal, opened in spring 2010 and inner, passing by Semaforo and Arpagna Mount. It is difficult excursions on mule tracks or paths, which lasts about three to five hours from the port.
