The Natural Oriented Reserve Island of Stromboli and Strombolicchio is a natural reserve established in 1997 in the territory of Lipari. The Reserve protects Stromboli, a volcano formed about 40.000 years, with a unique volcanic cone with three mouths perennially active. The main crater opens below the top of the west side and inside the magma bubbling continuously. The eruptive activity is of two kinds: emissions of ash and steam explosions and intermittent and intense spittles of hot stones and lava.
