Villaggio Preistorico di Capo Graziano

Where Località Capo Graziano, Filicudi, Lipari (Messina)

Archaeological excavations at Capo Graziano have highlighted twenty oval huts, some with "herringbone" structure, located on the western side of the promontory, about 100 m above sea level. Inside the huts were found pottery from Diana Period and Proto-Mycenaean style, that testify continuity of population until 1430 BC, when the village was destroyed in a violent way. On the highest point of Capo Graziano there is the ancient sacrificial altar. In the seabed of Capo Graziano was established an Archaeological Submarine Museum, accessible only to experienced divers with advanced certification, where it can observe nine wrecks (among them, the wreck "A" of the second century BC, the wreck "G", the fifth century BC and the wreck "City of Milan", 1919) and practice different routes, up to a maximum depth of 45 meters. A part of archaeological finds is preserved in the Archaeological Filicudano Museum "Bernabò Brea".
