PINACOTECA ZELANTEA
Based in Neoclassical building designed by Mariano Panebianco, it is the oldest Sicily academy, founded under the name of "Zelantea" in 1671. In 1834 it was united to the Congregation of the Fathers of the Firm and, in 1934, to the eighteenth-century Academy of Dafnici. Since 1963 it took its present name and a new statute. The Library houses thousands of volumes dating from 1461, including some incunabula of '500. The part intended as Museum hosts a eighteenth-century Senate Acese carriage, a collection of Greek-Roman artifacts, including the Acireale's Bust (discovered in 1675 in Capomulini), a weapons collection, some collections of minerals, coins and fossils.
