Isola di Palmaria (Sito UNESCO Cinque Terre)
The island of Palmària is located at the western end of Gulf of La Spezia. Located in front of the village of Porto Venere, from which it is separated by a narrow stretch of sea called "Le bocche", it is part of an archipelago also consisting of the islands of Tino and Tinetto, with which, since 1997, was inserted among UNESCO World Heritage Sites with Cinque Terre. Among the curiosities: the island has hosted the film set of the film I cannoni di Navarone, framing the final scene; on September 4, 1999, Paolo Pietrapiana and Luigi Sannino discover from Monte Viseggi Observatory at La Spezia the asteroid 12575, named in honor of the island "Palmaria". Currently it is possible to reach the island with private boats or, in the summer months, with ferries that connect it to Porto Venere, Lerici and La Spezia.
