The most important library of the city is Bertoliana Public Library, active since 1708. In the main office of San Giacomo Palace has 417,052 volumes. The history of the Library began in 1696, when Giovanni Maria Bertolo, Vicenza nobleman, decided to give the city its library of about 9,000 volumes. The assets of the headquarters of the library includes 750 titles and 3,550 manuscripts. The management of Library was entrusted, in 1881, also Historical Archives of the city of Vicenza.
