Palazzo Loredan in Campo Santo Stefano

Loredan Palace before the acquisition by the homonymous family, in 1536, and the restoration by the architect Antonio Abbondi, was a group of adjacent buildings, in Gothic style, belonging to the Mocenigo family. Between 1855 and 1862 it will be made radical adaptation work of the south wing of the building to public offices. In 1888, the Palace is assigned as the headquarters of the Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts, undergoing further restoration. Currently, the smallest facade is the richest: a majestic front stone by Giovanni Gerolamo Grapiglia. Inside, you can see the large entrance hall with Gothic columns and capitals, from which a beautiful monumental stair, carried out by Antonio Abbondi. On the ceiling of a room of the mezzanine you can admire the paintings by Jacopo Palma the Younger and Antonio Vassilacchi (1600), depicting scenes from the Old Testament. On the main floor, an eighteenth-century fresco by Giuseppe Angeli, with quadrature by Francesco Zanchi. In the same room the stucco works are attributed to Giuseppe Ferrari. Of particular interest is the fresco by Giovanni Carlo Bevilacqua titled "Allegory of Napoleon". The Pantheon was created in 1847, when the Institute commissioned a collection of busts and medallions of illustrious men from the Veneto: the project, it started in 1847, ended in 1931, with the last bust of Carlo Gozzi.
