Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello - Palazzo Pisani

Pisani palace is located in the St. Mark district. It is the seat of the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello, born in 1867. The construction of the building began in 1614. Alvise Pisani, the customer decided to provide first hand the work contacting local artisans. In 1634, an earthquake destroyed part of the building, which had to be rebuilt. In the late eighteenth century they were made other works, who tampered with the plant, with about 200 rooms. The main facade is characterized by decorative Istrian stone and is traditionally tripartite: the center of the ground floor is a large portal, serliane taken from the upper floors; the sides, develop mullioned windows with rounded arches, whose keystone decorated with a human head. The first floor balcony, exceptionally powerful, is governed by two corbels and its parapet is decorated with square motif. The facades have both a secondary aspect bare, with only single windows. The plant has very different characteristics from traditional ones: a succession of rooms on the sides of portego, around two courtyards separated only by a loggia. The building has been, over the years, a victim of spoliation, despite everything, still survive today many works of art, concentrated in the ceiling and in the stucco. The portal is surrounded by two groups of sculptures depicting the Killing of the Nemean Lion and the Capture of Cerberus, attributed to Girolamo Campagna. Decorations abound in the rooms on the first floor, which also has a chapel with altarpiece depicting the "Holy Family and Saint John" by Giuseppe Angeli. Other premises particularly important is the Ballroom, now used for concerts. The most valuable piece of art in the room was, once, the painting that decorated the ceiling, made by Antonio Pellegrini between 1722 and 1723, then sold. Ancient Library Pisani is not nothing more than a catalog dating back to 1807.
