Caffè Quadri

It is one of the oldest and long-lived Italian Cafè. Its activities began in 1775, when the Venetian merchant Giorgio Quadri decided to open a place in which to prepare and sell coffee. Quadri opened his restaurant in the Old Procuratie, and its coffee shop soon became one of the favorite haunts of the Venetian. The Cafè underwent a first major renovation in 1830, under the management of the Vivarini brothers, who expanded both spaces that activity. The floor was decorated with stucco in pastel shades, with a predominance of the colors green and yellow, and completed with views and scenes of Venetian life, painted by Giuseppe Ponga. In 2011, the Cafè, which has the only restaurant in St. Marck Square, came under the management of the Alajmo family. Among the most illustrious clients: Stendhal, George Byron, Alexandre Dumas father, Richard Wagner, Marcel Proust.
