Ponte dei Sospiri

Where Castello, 4242, Venezia

The Sighs Bridge was built in Istrian stone, in Baroque style, in the early seventeenth century by the architect Antonio Contin. This characteristic bridge of Venice, is a little distance from St. Marc Square, connecting with a double pass the Doge's Palace to the new prisons, serving as a passage for the prisoners: according to legend, the name comes from the fact that the prisoners, crossing it, they longed for death.
