Ca' Rezzonico

Designed by Baldassarre Longhena in 1649, commissioned by the noble Bon family, due to the economic difficulties of the developers and the death of the same Longhena, the Palace was soon abandoned. Giambattista Rezzonico bought it in 1751, entrusting their completion to Giorgio Massari, who designed the magnificent main staircase, the staircase of water, the monumental atrium, the Grand Ballroom and the decoration of the facade on the Grand Canal. It currently houses the Museum of Eighteenth Century Venice that, in addition to reconstructions of environments with furniture and furnishings of the time, houses important paintings by Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Pietro Longhi, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and many sketches in terracotta by Giovanni Maria Morlaiter. The facade stands out for its monumentality: divided into three major horizontal bands, with the ground floor decorated with ornaments and a rusticated portal with water three holes marked by columns and arched windows. Each floor ends with twin columns. The plant of the building is complex: it has a Grand Ballroom, which occupies two floors in height and connected by the majestic staircase.
