Ponte degli Scalzi, 3, Venezia
Scalzi Bridge, in Venice, is one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal. The first Bridge was built in 1858 by the English engineer Alfred Neville under the Habsburg rule: it was cast, a rectilinear structure, similar to that erected a few years earlier by the same Neville in the Academy. The limited height prevented the passage of boats and its "industrial" style was difficult to reconcile with the surrounding structures. The metal Bridge was then replaced by a new single-span Bridge entirely in Istrian stone, designed by engineer Eugenio Mozzi. Work began in 1932 and the Bridge was inaugurated two years later.
