Itria Valley, located in central Puglia, straddling the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto, coincides with the southern part of Murge plateau and includes the villages of Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca. The main peculiarity of the valley are Trulli, typical and exclusive cone-shaped stone houses declared UNESCO Site, the farms and rural landscape characterized by traditional use of local stone to build dry stone walls in bright red soil. Traits of woods and Mediterranean scrub alternate with numerous vineyards from which excellent quality white wines are obtained, such as DOC Locorotondo and Martina Franca DOC, and centuries-old olive groves, from which extra virgin olive oil is produced. Among protected natural areas, Bosco delle Pianelle, in Martina Franca and Selva di Fasano. Currently Valle d'Itria is one of the most visited areas in Italy. Natural, architectural and landscape beauties make it one of the main destinations of international tourism. Among the major attractions: historic centers, characterized by trulli and whitewashed houses decorated with flowered balconies; the elements of Pugliese Baroque, the main characteristic of Martina Franca.
