Palazzo Grimani (Castello)

Where Ramo Grimani, Castello, 4858, Venezia

Grimani of Santa Maria Formosa Palace is a state museum located in Venice, in the Castello district, with the main facade of the Rio of St. Severo. The Palace was the home of the Doge Antonio Grimani, then expanded, in the mid-sixteenth century, by the Patriarch of Aquileia, Giovanni Grimaldi, who personally designed the changes to the Palace with the help of Michele Sanmicheli, author of the external portal. Among the interior, interesting is the Hall of Psyche, with frescoes by Francesco Menzocchi, Camillo Mantovano and Francesco Salviati (1540). The ceiling with the Psyche by Salviati was removed and sold by subsequent owners of the building. The Callisto Room was adorned by stucco reliefs by Giovanni da Udine. Even the extraordinary collections were dispersed, with the exception of the collection in the Archaeological Museum, at the Procuratie Nuove.
