The State Archives is located in the St. Polo district, at the former Convent of St. Mary Gloriouse of Frari. The Archive is opened here in 1815, initially as General Archive, homes all old documents from the archives of the most prestigious Venetian palaces. The complex consists of several buildings arranged around two cloisters adjacent and contiguous to the Frari Church: the first is called Trinity Cloister, (or of the Dead), a square with rounded arches and a central well; the second, innermost, is the St. Anthony Cloister, is smaller and trapezoidal. Inside, the Chapter Hall, large, in which were preserved frescoes now lost. The entrance of the Archive is in Campo dei Frari. The facade has three floors, in Neoclassical style: tripartite, with the two main floors characterized by long rows of rectangular mullioned windows separated by pilasters at the center and a large pediment containing the effigy. On the ground floor, seven large rounded portals serve as access to the building. The documentary heritage of the Venetian Archive is immense, from the origins of the city until the modern era: 70 km of shelves full of documents that affect the entire history of the Republic of Venice and the whole world with which it was political, economic and cultural relationship. At the State Archive of Venice it is on the School of Archival Science, Paleography and Diplomacy
