Of Franciscan rigor, Sacro Monte di Belmonte located in Valperga, overlooks Canavese plain between the Serra d'Ivrea and the hills of Turin. Monastery in the early years of the Thousand, then a sanctuary and a new convent, became Sacro Monte starting from 1712 and part of UNESCO Sites of the Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy. Sacro Monte di Belmonte is made up of 13 chapels, each of them dedicated to a stage of Via Crucis. You can admire its refined frescoes including the one dedicated to Jesus nailed to the cross made with a light and delicate touch by an unknown painter.
