Civico museo "Revoltella" e galleria d'arte moderna

Where VIA DIAZ, 27, Trieste

The Revoltella Museum, elegant urban residence in the Renaissance style, was built between 1854 and 1858, designed by Berlin F. Hitzig, a pupil of Schinkel, at the behest of Baron Pasquale Revoltella, who at his death (1869) designated it as museum and left to the city. Inside, it's characterized by a spectacular spiral staircase that connects the three floors, retains the original furnishings and decor (inlaid floors, painted ceilings, stucco coatings), as well as a large collection of art (marble groups of Magni, historical scenes, landscapes and portraits of the first half of the nineteenth century). In this century the Museum has developed in the adjacent Palazzo Brunner, which now houses one of the most important collections of modern art in Italy (works by Hayez, Fattori, De Nittis, Morelli, Palaces, Nono, Favretto, Bistolfi, Previati , von Stuck, Morandi, Fontana, etc.).
