Piazza del Popolo

Where Piazza del Popolo, 35, Todi (Perugia)

It is the secular center of Todi, and houses one of the most interesting Medieval complex of Italy. All around, there are the main monuments testifying to the powers of the era of Free Municipalities: the Cathedral of the Annunciation, the Priori Palace, the Captain's Palace and the People's Palace. The current Square has a square shape, it appeared much larger in the past, with the Cathedral placed in the center until the fifteenth century. In 1487 it was surrounded by walls with four gate, and at the center was a fountain, which was demolished in 1262, when it was decided to paved it and were found Roman cisterns for storage of cereals.
