Ex Chiesa di San Lorenzo (Sala Pelagus)

Where Via delle Terme, Spoleto (Perugia)

Dedicated to St. Lowrence Illuminator, who arrived in Spoleto perhaps the result of Isaac and Brizio, at the early twentieth century the Church, the sacristy and rectory were in a total state of abandon. Dating from the first half of the twelfth century, has a facade in hewn stone with gabled roof. On the portal opens a mullioned window adorned with a column with leafy capitals. The bell tower is back, and replaces the previous one which was to be built at the center of the facade. The interior, restored in 1972, is still a room with a roof truss, which still hosts frescoes and works: an altarpiece depicting St. Anthony of Padua and the Holy Family (eighteenth century) and a late Baroque altar in masonry and wood painted to resemble marble. It is called "Pegasus Hall" after its restoration, when it is used and managed by the "Festival of Two Worlds" to host installations, exhibitions and concerts. Back again into operation in 2014, it is used by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale for film screenings: first-run movies, art-house cinema, documentaries, exhibitions and meetings with authors.
