Chiesa di San Salvatore

Where Via San Salvatore Basilica, Spoleto (Perugia)

The building is one of the main Lombard architectures, part of the circuit "Lombards in Italy: the places of power", "World Heritage" by UNESCO since 2011. Already early Christian basilica of the fourth and fifth centuries, was extensively renovated by the Lombards eighth century. The plant, probably of burial, is a basilica with three naves, a tripartite presbytery covered by a vault with an octagonal base. The apse is semi-circular, it closed with a straight wall flanked by two apsidal with vault. The interior has lost its original stucco decoration and painting, but retains the rich entablature with Doric frieze, set on Doric columns (in the nave) and Corinthian (in the sanctuary). The original facade of the eighth century has lost the rich decoration and the triangular pediment, but are the window frames and the three portals carved with classical motifs.
