Chiesa di San Pietro in Camerellis

Where Via Portanova, Salerno

Church of San Pietro in Camerellis is now in the heart of the city and roesent with architecture of postwar period. During Second World War, in fact, ancient church suffered serious damage due to the bombing, was then demolished and rebuilt with an adjoining house rectory. The singularity of its denomination has its roots in the origins of Christianity in Salerno and, in part, in the legend associated with a stop of St. Peter and the building of a church that, at that time, stood outside the city walls. Historically documented is instead the relationship with Crociferi Fathers, institute order in 1169 by Pope Alexander III.
