For fifty years, the Historical Museum of the Liberation, with the Porta San Paolo, the Ghetto and the Mausoleum of the Ardeatine, is one of the landmarks in the memory of the Resistance of Rome to Nazi-fascism in its valence triple citizen, national and European. The Museum is engaged in the collection and preservation of documents - written, visual, oral and material - on the Resistance, deportation, internment military and civilian victims of the massacres.
It hosts and supports initiatives for the affirmation of the rights of individuals and peoples, freedom and equality, civil and democratic society, peace and cooperation, nonviolence. Visitors and users will find a permanent exhibition and educational services, documentaries and research assistance. It collects and exhibits memorabilia, documents, photographs, graphic works and paintings, which are useful in reconstructing and representing people, issues and events of the Nazi occupation of Rome and of the liberation struggle, armed or not. It also promotes study, research, teaching, publishing and cultural promotion, including through the use of audiovisual and computer.
 
 

During the German occupation of Rome, the headquarters of the German terror apparatus were located in Via Tasso 145/155. The building contained a prison in which Jews and political opponents were incarcerated and tortured. The »Historical Museum of the Liberation« has been located in the building since 1957
