Monte Mario is the hill that is in Rome on the right side of the Tiber. With its 139 meters height is the most impressive relief of Rome, from where you can enjoy one of the best views of the city, especially from the place called "Zodiac". This location was also chosen as the geodesic vertex in the Gauss-Boaga map projection (datum Rome 40), as well as the seat of the Astronomical Observatory of Rome. The Centre coordinates the popular activities at the Solar Tower and care conservation and divulgation of Copernican Astronomy Museum. The Museum contains an important historical collection of astronomical instruments: telescopes, sextants to measure the angular separation between the stars, astrolabes and quadrants night. It also houses a rich collection of armillary and celestial spheres, terrestrial globes, including those of Mercator and Cassini.
