The Independent studies Fiume was born in Fiume (now Rijeka in Croatia) in 1923, dissolved the Deputation stream of national history founded in 1909 especially for the encouragement of young intellectual Rijeka Aegisthus Rossi (1881-1908), who hoped to be realized a history of Rijeka and at the same time that it would create a historical archive of the city. On 27 November 1960 at the express initiative Attilio Depoli and other intellectual Rijeka, the Company was reconstituted in Rome: the first elected president was Attilio Depoli. The historical context as a backdrop for reconstitution is the tragedy at the end of World War II, the exodus of Rijeka, Julian and Dalmatian from the lands of origin. The establishment of the Archives Museum was the result of the desire to collect and save neglect and dispersion a large amount of library material, documentary, artistic and photo, along with all sorts of memorabilia.
The museum is placed in the room on a lower floor area of ​​250 sqm. approx. revolves around a central shrine in memory of Julian-Dalmatian Italian died for their country. The exhibition begins with a broad overview documentary about the exodus from the Adriatic lands, proceeds with memorabilia and original documents illustrating the history of Rijeka largely from its Roman origins to the Second World War, urban aspects, monumental, association, educational, administrative, religious and cultural city of Rijeka and its surroundings explicable by the identity of the Italian character.
