Chiesa di Dio Padre Misericordioso (o del Giubileo)

Where Via Francesco Tovaglieri, 194, Roma

The Church of God the Merciful Father (or Jubilee), located in the Alexandriann district, is a work by Richard Meier, author of the new building also containing the Ara Pacis, in Rome. Like many other works by American architect it is chromatically white and consists of three sails, the tallest of which reaches a height of 26 meters, built with a special self-cleaning concrete. The Church with its sails and the nave that takes up the idea of a boat, goes back to the Christian tradition in which the boat is the Church as a guide in the sea: the sails are three, number symbolizing the Trinity, positioned to dominate the building itself, gives the idea of God's protection on the community. Even the light is carefully thought: never enters directly, except in a moment of the afternoon in summer, when, from a small window, the sunlight illuminates the Crucifix placed inside.
