Piazza Cavour

Where Piazza Cavour, 11, Rimini

Piazza Cavour, center of city life since the Middle Ages, is the main square of Rimini, a meeting point which usually take place in ceremonies, exhibitions and markets. The dell'Arengo and Podesta Paleces were built here respectively in 1204 and in 1334 in the Gothic style. The Pigna Fountain, in white marble, is a remarkable example of Renaissance architecture: has a polygonal shape with three drums and consists of two concentric polygonal basins, decorated with bas-reliefs and a Roman sculpture. The history of the fountain is documented by the many tombstones and  commemorative inscriptionsaffixed on its drums, but the most famous is that testimony left by Leonardo da Vinci during a visit to Rimini in 1502.
