Chiesa di San Domenico

Where Piazza Ventinove Marzo, 10A, Orvieto (Terni)

Its construction began in 1233, a few years after the death of St. Dominic, and is perhaps one of the first churches of his Order. From the original building, with three naves, remain only the apse and transept, since demolished in 1932 for the construction of the Academy of Women's Physical Education. Inside, it houses the chair used by St. Thomas Aquinas in the lessons of theology in the period when he was in Orvieto (1263-1264). From this Church comes the beautiful altarpiece "Madonna with Child and Saints" by Simone Martini (1323-1324), now preserved in the Cathedral's Museum.
