The Natural Marine Protected Area Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo was established in 1997. It extends from Ceraso Cape and Island Red, south of Coda Cavallo Cape, including the islands of Molara and Molarotto. In 2007 it was recognized as Area SPAMI (Specially Protected Area of ​​Mediterranean Importance). In the three safeguard zones it is forbidden to free navigation and hunting. Inside the Natural Area are the Site of Community Importance (SCI) "St. Theodor's Pond" and a Special Protection Area (SPA) "Island of Tavolara, Molara, and Molarotto". The reserve is of great interest for diving, with several dive sites of great interest. The seabed is characterized by rocks covered with sea daisies and sponges; in the deep there is the Eunicella cavolinii and stands out, among other molluscs, a specimen of Pinna nobilis of almost a meter in size. In the sandy bottom of Punta Secca there is the Posidonia.
