The Cathedral Museum was founded in 1953, thanks to the scholar Ugo Nebbia and "Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo", the historical entity that manages the Cathedral from 1387. It's located in the oldest wing of the Royal Palace, the eighteenth-century mansion of Visconti-Sforza built by Piermarini, and exhibits a first group of works related to the Duomo of Milan, in addition to ten more salt reorganized by Ernesto Brivio in historical and chronological order. After the last restoration, in 2013, the Museum offers a large sculptural collection, which are added stained glass, paintings, tapestries, embroidery, terracotta sketches and large architectural models, to cover the entire period from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. The "Treasure Hall" exposes the oldest objects of the Cathedral: ivory diptychs from the fifth to the ninth century; works by Aribert of Intimiano; jewelry and enamels. The Museum offers educational activities, guided tours and a special route for the blind.
