Teatro Vittorio Emanuele II
Wonted by Ferdinand II of Bourbon in 1842, designed by architect Pietro Valente in Neoclassical style, was opened in 1852. Damaged by the 1908 earthquake, the building has been the subject of a reconstructive restoration, with internal enlargement. The new inauguration (1985) has revived the "Aida", last performance before the quake. In this Theater, in 1870, she made her debut the famous soprano Emma Albani, with the "Sonnambula" by Vincenzo Bellini. The exterior features a front porch with three arches, on top of which stands a marble sculpture depicting "Time unveiling Truth and Messina", by Saro Zagari.
