Museo del castello. Collezioni civiche archeologiche "U. Formentini"

Where VIA XXVII MARZO, SNC, La Spezia

The Castle of San Giorgio in La Spezia homes precious civic archaeological collection "U. Formentini". The exhibition allows to make a diachronic evolution of the territory, in which are highlight the beautiful stone statues from Lunigiana, symbols of sacred anthropomorphic megalithic of the Copper/Bronze and Iron ages, which are one of the most relevant and tangible documentation about these populations. The Roman section consists of a rich core of materials came from the colony of Luni, in the collection Fabbricotti. The collection exhibits marble artifacts, evidence of the high degree of technical development in the processing of marble from the local workshops. The architectural elements, statues and funerary monuments appear with strong clarity by dark walls of the castle, creating a fascinating contrast.
