Porta Siberia (o del molo)

The activity of Genoa Alessi began, according to Vasari, with the design of the Door of Pier, at the same time the construction of the walls of the sixteenth century. In 1550, in fact, was in charge to study a military organism, fitting into the new line of fortifications, that was able to ensure both the defensive and those customs barrier and transit between the pier and the city. The location, given the importance urban intervention, was chosen appropriately between the walls of Malapaga and Mandraccio, near the ancient foundries artillery. Antonio Roderio took care of the execution between 1551-53. The Dungeon of the Pier, through a dialect corruption of the ancient name of Porta Cibaria, became known as Porta Siberia in the late nineteenth century, when it took place within its walls the control of foodstuffs in transit in the port. Saved from demolition by the opening of the "Carrettiera Charles Albert" because of its position, the door gradually lost all function with the burial of the fallen. The restoration project, made by Renzo Piano for the Columbus, in 1992, has enabled the restoration of the interior spaces, then allocating the manufactured home to the Museo Luzzati and temporary exhibitions of other artists.
