Chiesa Matrice di San Michele Arcangelo (Santa Maria ad Adnexis)

Where Fiumefreddo Bruzio (Cosenza)

Built under the title of San Michele Arcangelo in 1540, it is linked to the devotion of Fernando Ruiz d'Alarcon, Marquis of Valle. Made unsafe by violent earthquake of 1683, in subsequent consolidation gave impetus to the nave, dome and bell tower through the raising of the existing wall structure. The interior is a real art gallery where you can admire numerous works of Neapolitan school of '500 and '600. At the alatare of Purgatory you can admire canvas, depicting Madonna and Child and Souls of Purgatory by local painter Giuseppe Pasqualetti. Another valuable work, painted on wood by Pietro Negroni, is located in sacristy. Important work is St. Nicholas of Bari by Solimena. Church has a single nave and is characterized by a number of side altars in faux marble, produced by "scaiola" technique.
