Must-see for tourists visiting the city, it is the most impressive lookout. Made in 1869 by architect Giuseppe Poggi on a hill south of Old Town, is dedicated to Michelangelo and has, in his honor, copies of some famous works preserved: David and the four allegories of Medici Chapels in St. Lowrence. Poggi also designed the loggia, in Neoclassical style, overlooking the terrace and which now houses a rooftop restaurant. The view encompasses entire Florence, from Forte Belvedere to Santa Croce, through Arno River and the main bridges, to the hills north of the town (Fiesole and Settignano). Piazzale accessed by car along the tree-lined Viale Michelangelo, or on foot, by monumental neo-Mannerist staircases, "Ramps", which radiate from the center of Poggi Square, in St. Niccolò district.
