Verdi Theatre, originally called Pagliano Theatre, took this name in 1901. Used as a prison for five hundred years, the building was purchased by Messrs Joachim Faldi, Cosimo Canovetti, Giuseppe Galletti and Michele Massai, who proceeded to turn it into the largest current tenement . They followed a period in which the property passed from hand to hand. It changed its name to Verdi Theatre, adeguiandosi to host events and shows of various genres. In 1949-1950, the Theater and local relevance were completely renovated by architects Baroni and Maurizio Tempestini. At this arrangement was that the current design of the main entrance on Via Ghibellina, forms decidedly modern, as well as various decorative bas-reliefs in the interior spaces, works by sculptor Mannucci Giannetto. Other renovations were carried out to repair the damage caused by the flood of 1966. Since the last war, the Theater has often hosted events of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in the closing periods of the City Theatre, with a capacity of 806 spectators.
