Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana

Where San Lorenzo, 9, Firenze

The Library is open to the public in 1571, is one of the finest examples of the architecture of Michelangelo Buonarroti and shows a unique collection of books for philological and artistic merit. The environments of Michelangelo's monumental vestibule and reading room are no longer used as a library, but are open to visitors with a function in a museum. In the adjacent rooms of the late nineteenth century are often organized thematic exhibitions of ancient manuscripts and printed books.
