Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, established in 1991, is the third largest National Park in Italy for territorial extension. A picturesque road is the teacher of Park Road, which crosses the border territory between Gran Sasso massif and the chain of Laga, linking the province of L'Aquila and Teramo. A hiking goal, either on foot or on horseback or by bike, there is Gran Sasso's horse trail. Also in the park are four ski slopes suitable for winter sports. Protected area is home of numerous mammals and birds, the most important species is represented by Abruzzo chamois, endemic of Apennines. The flora is extremely varied depending on the area and interest rate.
