Mulini “Saraceni” del Lumia

Where Discesa Vescovado M., 20, Tropea (Vibo Valentia)

The mills in the Lumia stream are among the few remaining of a largest series which once filled the Tropea valleys. The Lumia, whose name is believed to Arab origin, increased its reach by more water from Saint'Agase, fed the territory of Tropea in that area that reaches along the Marina road, with four flour mills belonged to several families. The buildings are presented with the typical barrel vault from Arabic derivation, the only evidence of the industrial technology of the past. In ancient times, near the mouth of the river there was the Naval Asenal, composed of a series of arches: there were manufactured fishing vessels and galleys, including those who took an active part in the Lepanto Battle.
