Liceo Classico “Bernardino Telesio”

Where Piazza XV Marzo, 1, Cosenza

The old school was built on the foundations of the College and the St. Ignatius of Loyola's Church, in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century by the Jesuit Fathers. The construction of the portico dates back to the age of the Restoration: is what remains of the St. Ferdinand's Theater, built in 1831 and torn down in 1850. After the Unification of Italy, it becomes Liceo and includes as teachers intellectuals like Vincenzo Padula and Saverio Albo. The ancient seat of the High School is not currently used as a place of study (in the sixties was in fact built a new headquarters, wider, in XV March Square). The headquarters of the High School is one of the largest educational facilities in the city and has an Auditorium dedicated to Antonio Guarasci, second theater of Cosenza in size and capacity, which represents one of the most significant areas of the city.
