Where Via Etnea, Catania

The Street, it is the main street of the historic center of Catania. Winds in the north-south road, has a straight course and is about three kilometers long. It goes from Duomo Square to the Tondo Gioieni. It was built in the late seventeenth century following the disastrous earthquake of 1693. Over the centuries, its name was changed several times. Along the Via Etnea seven churches were built and many palaces of the nobility of Catania and public buildings, built in the style of the Sicilian Baroque by architects Giovan Battista Vaccarini and Francesco Battaglia. The Street was recently repaved with cobblestones in Etna stone and yield to a pedestrian stretch.
