Palazzo Tezzano

Construction of Tezzano Palace was begun in 1709 on a land belonging to Count Niccolò Tezzano, who donated it to the city as the site of St. Mark's Hospital. Now houses the Pottery Archive of the University of Catania, consists of a corpus of thousands of reproductions of antique vases from all over Europe. The building is square-shaped with inner courtyard. It is accessed through a large front door in the middle of the facade and surmounted by a balcony on which towers is a monumental clock. The facade is symmetric, divided by false columns in pale stone contrasting with the gray basalt plaster.
