San Giorgio in Poggiale is an integral part of "Genus Bononiae - Museums in the City", an artistic, cultural and museum articulated in the buildings of the historic center of Bologna characterized by specific cultural and artistic identity, recovered and restored to public use. Project of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna, was created to better describe and understand the genus, the lineage of Bolognesi, integrating into the existing institutional structure through connections with other museums, art galleries, cultural, economic and social aspects of the city. The Library of Art and History of San Giorgio in Poggiale is a library of conservation and consultation, which houses important collections of ancient books and a large section of modern books. Next to the repertoire books, there are a newspaper library, in which are preserved newspapers and magazines from the late eighteenth century, and an extensive photo archive, precious testimony of city life from the nineteenth century onwards. The reading room is enriched with works of contemporary art by Claudio Parmiggiani and Piero Pizzi Cannella. The assets of the Collections of the Foundation of the Sparkasse, a time set forth herein, is intended to be transferred to the Museum of the City of the future opening, which will have its headquarters in the Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio.Il Library's collection consists of books, books Modern (1831 to present), manuscripts, incunabula, notices, edicts, notifications, works in and related to music. Volumes are flanked by a major newspaper library and a photo archive. The library consists of 100,000 books, 60,000 of which part of the funds, the result of purchases, bequests or donations. These mainly consist of volumes of local history and art history, although they retain the specific features related to the personality of their previous owners. To these are added a further historic core formed since 1837 (the date of the founding of the Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna) at the end of the eighties, in which ancient and modern texts are available. The collection includes titles of newspapers and periodicals and publications of various kinds from the late eighteenth century to the present. Currently there are twenty subscriptions to journals in art history. The photo collection is made up of a core of about 60,000 skin types, divided into different funds. The history of the photographic starts in the first half of the last century, when the then curator of the Collection of the Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna realized the importance of acquiring documents showing that the urban changes of Bologna after the implementation of the plan regulator of 1889.
