Established in 1999 by the City, the Province, the Jewish Community and the Institute for Cultural Heritage, with the aim of preserving and enhancing the Jewish cultural heritage in Bologna and Emilia-Romagna, the museum is housed in the Palazzo Diapers, historic building located at 'interior of the former ghetto. The itinerary is divided into three areas: the ground floor is the permanent exhibition, and that intended for temporary activities; the first floor is home to the documentation center of the museum. The exhibition layout, complete with multimedia tools and equipment for illustrative and educational addresses the issue of Jewish identity, explained to the essential points through the history and culture of the community in Bologna, relations with the university, and trade relations with the conventional credit, habits, customs, festivals, rituals. Two rooms are devoted to the presence of Jews in Bologna and other cities in Emilia and Romagna. In the center of documentation are available bibliographical sources and the "databases" connected to the museum and the various institutions of the communication network. Among the many cultural initiatives of the museum, there are the courses of the Hebrew language, ancient and modern.
