The museum, built by the division of the Cabinet at the University of Sciences commissioned by Carlo Farini in 1860, is located in its present location - at the Graduate Institute of Zoology - since 1933. Specimens on display, some eight thousand between vertebrates and invertebrates, come in part from the collections of Aldrovandi, Cospi and Marsili, and in part will bind to the different stages of expansion of the museum. The setting, enhanced by dioramas, delves into special topics (national parks, hunting and animals extinct or endangered).
