Anfiteatro

Where Via dell'Anfiteatro, Avella (Avellino)

The only visitable monument today from the Roman city of Abella is the Amphitheatre, the depiction of which appears on the side of a base of limestone statue of Antonine, now on display in front of the Ducal Palace, in the center of Avella. It was built in the first century BC, in an area previously occupied by housing facilities of the Samnite period. The monument, reticulate, was built behind the walls of the city and claimed, in the south-west by substructures designed to withstand the auditorium, not preserved.
