Ramacca is a comune (municipality) in a mountainous area in the Province of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily, located about 140 kilometres (87 mi) southeast of Palermo and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Catania. It lies west of the Plain of Catania. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 10,630 and an area of 305.8 square kilometres (118.1 sq mi). The municipality of Ramacca contains the frazione (subdivision) Libertinia. Ramacca borders the following municipalities: Agira, Aidone, Assoro, Belpasso, Castel di Judica, Lentini, Mineo, Palagonia, Paternò, Raddusa. Its name derives from the Arabic Rahal Mohac which means Hamlet of Mohac. Ramacca is noted for its annual Sagra del Carciofo, which is an artichoke festival held in April.
